About me
A little information on myself: I am Rutger Nieuwman and I was born in the lovely town Emmen with lots of inspiring people.
I went to school at the Hondsrug College in Emmen, where I did VWO Atheneum. After finishing that I was accepted to Academy Minerva in Groningen, where I graduated in february 2006.
I entered as a student media art, but I changed that to ABK (Autonome Beeldende Kunst), or autonomous art, specializing in photography. I started with a bit of a puristic view to photography and the next two and a half years I practically lived in the photolab. Fortunately I revised my view about photography: I don't consider shooting the perfect photo a priority anymore, I focus on building new things with the photos that I shoot.

This contest was organized by Ms. Renate Coenraad, teacher at Academy Minerva, in association with Gasunie. The subject was to bring art into the working place, in this case Gasunie Research,Groningen. There were two prizes, one was decided by a jury of professionals, the other was decided by the workers and researchers working in that building. The first one went to V.R. ten Dam, the second one went to me.
